A native of Bay City, Michigan, Madonna was born August 16, 1958 to parents Silvio "Tony" P. Ciccone and Madonna Louise Fortin. It was her ballet teacher, Christopher Flynn, who encouraged Madonna to move to New York to pursue a career as a professional dancer.

Madonna

As most up-and-coming entertainers do, Madonna struggled financially in New York, working such low-paying jobs as a cashier at Dunkin' Donuts and, on occasion, as a nude model. She eventually landed work with several modern dance companies, which led her to the music industry via then-boyfriend Dan Gilroy. Together they formed the band Breakfast Club, in which she played drums and guitar in addition to providing vocals. Later Madonna formed the band Emmy in 1980. It was through her recordings with this band that she caught the attention of producer Mark Kamins, who forwarded her work to Seymour Stein, founder of Sire Records.

Madonna's first deal with Sire Records resulted in three singles landing on the Billboard Hot Dance/Club charts. Her debut album Madonna soon followed in 1983, reaching number eight on the U.S. albums chart. The album featured five successful singles, including "Holiday", Madonna's first world-wide hit. Like a Virgin, the 1984 follow-up to Madonna, found even more success, earning the number one spot on the U.S. albums chart, a first for Madonna. Its title track camped out at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart for six weeks, and the album produced four more top-five hits. Madonna made jaws drop when she performed "Like a Virgin" on the very first MTV Video Music Awards, giving one of the most provocative and most talked-about performances in the show's history. Since then, Madonna has released eight more albums, all of which have been met with colossal success. These albums, in addition to starring roles in such box office successes as Evita and A League of Our Own, have undoubtedly made Madonna one of the most innovative and influential artists of our time. Get your Madonna tickets today and be a part of the creative influence of one of the most successful female artists to date. Fueled by controversy, Madonna's often erotic and inventive performances are not to be missed and can only be experienced with your Madonna tickets.
