Britney Spears: An Old-Timer's Guide So you've been roped in by your kids or grand-kids to go with them to a Britney Spears concert. Quite naturally, you know nothing about her music and not much more about her. Not to worry: We're here to give even the novie the knowledge they need to enjoy the concert. Britney’s Beginnings Britney Spears has gone from a small-town girl to an international superstar in just a short time. She was born on December 2, 1981 in Kentwood, LA, USA. Born on 2 December 1981 in the small town of Kentwood, Louisiana, She grew up idolizing all the female pop stars of the 1980’such as Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston, and especially Madonna.
Britney’s first real shot at stardom came at the age of 8 when she auditioned for Disney’s "The All New Mickey Mouse Club;" but she was a that time too young to star in the show. But she didn’t let that stop her; soon after Britney and her family moved north to New York for more opportunities. When in the Big Apple oung to get the part. Instead, Britney, her mother and baby sister moved to New York where she starred in several TV adverts and an off broad-way play "Ruthless", where she was an understudy with Natalie Portman. Her love of music and dance took over and 2 years later she auditioned for a part in Mickey Mouse again and this time won the part.
Despite her early setbacks, she was still destined for superstardom. As a child she as always found singing some hit song, and since then she never stopped. At the age of 17, she finally had hit songs of her own to sing. Her debut album, “…Baby One More Time,” was released in early 1999 and the debut single (also titled “…Baby One More Time”) took to the top of the album charts. The album stayed at number one on the pop charts for six weeks, and eventually went fourteen-times platinum, selling millions of copies. Britney stirred up some controversy by posing semi-nude for the cover of Rolling Stone magazine, but that only served to increase her popularity across the US and the world.
The Girl Becomes A Woman Britney went on to release four more studio albums. Her second album, “Did It Again,” released in mid-2000, also ended up a chart-topper. It quickly became to that date the fastest-selling album by a female artist, reaching #1 on the charts by selling 1.3 million copies in the first week of release.
Her eponymous album, “Britney,” came out in late 2001, and again debuted at #1 on both the US and Canadian charts, selling over 740,000 units its first week in the US. This made her the only female artist in SoundScan history to have her first three albums debut at #1. The top 30 hit single from that album was titled “I’m A Slave 4 U,” which also sparked some controversy. Her 2003 album was titled “In the Zone.” This album is notable for taking a different tone in production, including the hot new producer RedZone, along with industry giants like the electronic artist Moby and the R&B singer R. But Britney didn’t let the producers have all the fun; she co-wrote more than half of the songs on the album. “In The Zone,” like its predecessors, debuted at the top of the charts, giving Britney Spears the distinction of being the first woman in music history to debut at the top of the chart with her first four albums..
Her 2004 tour, named The Onyx Hotel Tour, was one of the highest grossing tours of that year, and probably would have been the top selling tour of 2004 if it had not been cancelled. The tour made $34 million and an estimated 600,000 fans across the United States, Canada, and tour dates in Europe.
