Winter has a special significance for football fans. That's the time when football, for the most part a fall sport, hosts its biggest game of the year: the Super Bowl. Most are content to watch the game at home-based parties or at sports bars, while a few make the trip of a lifetime to see it in person. Frontrow.com sells Super Bowl tickets and hotel packages.

Who will be there this year? Right out of the gate the Giants just don't seem to have it. Dallas has a lot to pro...especially in December. Can Romo win? And what about Green Bay? Rogers definitely looks good. The Saints have been lethal on both sides of the ball. The AFC may seem a bit tougher to pick but when you consider that whatever the Ravens had a year ago, they ain't got now, Baltimore is out. Nashville's horrific start is likely to keep them out of the post season all together.

How about the Chargers? Mean time, the Pats have not won the big games against the tough teams and Pittsburgh has not been consistent. Want to see the game for yourself?

FrontRow.com sells tickets to all of the big games, Playoffs and AFC and NFC Championships. Regardless of matchup, Frontow.com has the best selection of Super Bowl tickets and Super Bowl Hotel packages. We buy Super Bowl tickets for top prices. Frontrow.com also sells tickets to all Super Bowl parties including the Super Bowl Tailgate party, Playboy party and Maxim party. Our Super Bowl hotel packages range from economy to deluxe hotel accommodations .

The Yanks Are Coming

The Yanks are coming.  Not much doubt about it. Despite a few tough series against the Red Sox and a bad weekend in Los Angeles, all signs in the Bronx point to post-season baseball this fall in the new Yankee Stadium.
Today, the Yanks head into the All-Star break just three games behind first place Boston in the AL East.  At 51-37 they have the second best record in the American League.  The make-up of the second half schedule, the law of averages and the appearance of some young new talent all point to baseball this October in the new ball park in the Bronx.

While the Yankees open their second half against Central division leading Detroit, nine of their remaining 74 games will come against Oakland and Kansas City, two teams with the worst records in the American League.  Of the nine games that remain against first place Boston, six will be played in the Bronx and only three at Fenway. The Sox have swept the Yankees their previous eight meetings this season.  With the Yankees once again looking healthy there isn’t much chance that will happen again. The law of averages alone makes it unlikely.  Yankee pride and the hometown advantage say, “It ain’t gonna happen again!” So does the return of several key players who saw extended time on the DL this spring and some surprising contributions from those called up early to replace them.

The Yankees started the season with Alex Rodriguez on the disabled list.  Since his return in mid-May, A-Rod has already hit 17 homers and knocked in 50 runs. His return has also meant that pitchers could no longer avoid the bat of Mark Teixeira. Batting clean-up, behind A-Rod, Teixeira now has 63 RBI’s to go with his 21 home runs.

The Yankees have similarly played long stretches without Jorge Posada behind the plate. Injuries to Xavier Nady, Hideki Matsui and Johnny Damon have also hurt.  But now, not only are Posada, Matsui and Damon returning to form, their absences led to playing time for several young players who could figure prominently in the Yankees future.

One of those players is Brett Gardner. The speedy outfielder spent several weeks with the club late in 2008. He demonstrated great base running and defensive skills, but questions remained about his ability to hit major league pitching. Playing more regularly he now leads the team in stolen bases with 18 and is hitting 285.

Francisco Cervelli was barely on the radar as a major league catcher when injuries to Jorge Posada and Jose Molina thrust him into a starting role behind the plate.  With Posada turning 38 this summer, Cervelli looks like a shoe-in to someday share catching duties with Molina, a defensive whiz, but only a 238 lifetime hitter.

In a recent trade the Yankees also picked up former Rookie of the Year Eric Hinske, who has responded with three home runs in his first twelve at-bats in New York.

Meanwhile outfielder Melkie Cabrera (285) and second baseman Robinson Cano (308) are both having their best seasons at the plate. It should be noted as well, that minor league prospect Shelley Duncan is leading the International League with 21 home runs at this point.

The Yankees have suffered from injuries to their pitching staff as well, most notably starter Chien-Ming Wang and reliever Brian Bruney.  While Wang’s season continues to remain in doubt, the surprising appearance of Alfredo Aceves (2.49 ERA) and the recent resurgence of both Phil Hughes and A.J. Burnett have bolstered a solid staff led by C.C. Sabathia, Andy Petite and Joba Chamberlain.  Of course, as any close game approaches the late innings, opposing teams know who is sitting, stone-faced in the bullpen.
Mariano Rivera’s split-finger fastball remains as effective as ever. In 37 innings he has struck out 43 batters, walked only 3 and recorded 23 saves.  At age 39, in his 15th season, Rivera’s 2.43 ERA is just over his lifetime 2.29 mark. He recently recorded his 505th career save, the most in American League History.

Going into the All-Star break the Yankees have one more reason to be optimistic about their chances of catching the Red Sox and perhaps moving on to the World Series for the first time since 2003. That reason is Yankee pride itself in the person of their captain, Derek Jeter. At age 35, the Yankee shortstop is playing in his eighth All-Star game.  The American League’s top vote getter, 4,851,889 fans recognized both his 321 average and his unparalleled class as a team leader.

The manager of this year’s American League All-Star team best described the impact of the Yankee’s leadoff batter. Terry Francona, who also happens to be skipper of the archrival Boston Red Sox told the New York Daily News last week, “You want to beat his brains out because he's a Yankee, but I have a lot of respect for the way he goes about his business."

As his fist-full of World Series rings show, Derek Jeter’s business, is winning baseball games and as long as he is in the line-up the rest of the American League better watch out, because the Yanks are coming.
